In this digital version, the board is a battlefield. An “X” or “O” isn’t permanent. If your opponent places a small piece, you can gobble it up with a larger one to steal the square! This dynamic mechanic eliminates the boredom of constant draws and turns every match into a test of memory and tactical foresight.

How to Play

The rules are simple to learn but difficult to master.

1. Select Your Setup: Choose between Single Player (vs AI) or 2 Player (Local Multiplayer). Pick your grid size and customize your team colors using the palette editor.

2. The Objective: Form a line of your colored pieces (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal).

3. Making a Move: Drag a piece from your “Hand” (the stacks at the bottom of the screen) to an empty square on the board.

4. Eating Pieces: If a square is occupied by a smaller piece (either yours or your opponent’s), you can place a larger piece on top of it. This “gobbles” the previous piece and claims the square for you.

5. The Memory Element: Remember what is hidden! If you move a large piece that was covering a smaller one, the original piece underneath is revealed and becomes active again.

Strategy Guide: How to Win

To master Tic Tac Toe Gobble (and similar variants like Otrio), you need to think differently than in standard Tic-Tac-Toe.

• Don’t Rush the Big Pieces: A common rookie mistake is using your Large or XL pieces to claim empty squares in the first few turns. Save them! You need your biggest pieces to counter your opponent’s winning moves later in the game.

• Bait the Gobble: Place a medium piece to tempt your opponent into using their largest piece to eat it. Once their biggest piece is on the board, it is stuck there (mostly), leaving them vulnerable elsewhere.

• Control the Center: On the 5×5 grid, the center squares are critical for setting up diagonal wins. Use your “XL” pieces to lock these down.

• Watch Your Stacks: The HUD shows exactly how many pieces of each size you have left. Keep an eye on your opponent’s inventory. If they are out of Large pieces, your Medium pieces are safe from being eaten!
